Are you tired of feeling like your passion for nursing is slipping away?
Do you find yourself overwhelmed, exhausted, and struggling to maintain a work-life balance?
You're not alone.
Many nurses face burnout due to the stress and challenges of the profession.
I've been there too...
The late-early shifts
The constant (and mindless) snacking at the nurses desk
The lack of exercise
The emotional toll of juggling work and personal lives
But it doesn't have to be this way.
It's not your fault...
As you know, there simple aren't any resources that have been tailored to the unique needs of the shift working nurse and it's not your fault because of SO many reasons out of your control.
The constant bombardment of abuse from patients and/or their families.
Dealing with the death of a patient and supporting their loved ones.
Handling shift work whilst still showing up as wife, mum, sister, homemaker and caretaker in our personal lives.
PLUS Navigating a broken system that leads to perpetual understaffing and dogsh*t rosters
The list goes on…
I've been where you are, so I truly get what it means to be super busy and time poor. That's why my program is very easy to access, quick consume and simple put into practice even on the go.
It's created by a nurse for nurses. I've got you!
It IS possible to create balance, despite the demands of shiftwork
The dream of creating a work life balance that you love whilst still doing what you love in both your personal and professional lives IS absolutely possible.

At Nursing the Nurse, we’re passionate about making sure we practise what we preach which is why everything that we teach has been tried and tested by actual nurses and that they’re tailored to the busy-ness of our lives - easy, convenient access wherever, whenever.
We also value the importance of looking at the complete individual by taking a holistic approach; mental, physical and social wellbeing is KEY to sustainability.
If you’ve ever tried to follow any sort of program by yourself and given up (or forgot about it) a few days or weeks later, you’re not alone there! Having a community of like minded others who have been where you are is another element we value at Nursing the Nurse so that you are supported every step of the way.
Hello and welcome to Nursing the Nurse, sister!

Once again, welcome. Nursing is TOUGH, I know and I’ll share a bit more about how I got to where I am today shortly but I’d first like you to take a moment and acknowledge yourself for coming this far (whether you’ve just graduated or if you’re so ‘done’ that you may even be considering an early retirement) - you WILL get through this!
So who am I? My name is Jeanelle, I’m a FIFO wife, mum of two, registered nurse, author and holistic coach and since 2019, I’ve been passionate about helping others create a work life balance they deserve (and desperately need to live a life they love).
I didn’t quite realise the importance of this work until I found myself 6 months into my grad year on a very ‘heavy’ brain injury rehab ward and loving it. I was so excited about this new career but I was constantly seeing nurses who’d been working for years talking about how much they hate it and that they’re struggling to keep up.
I was beginning to grow disdain for my work… what was supposed to be my passion.
Heading into this career, I could never have anticipated the immense amount of stress it would put on me and every aspect of my health; mental, physical, emotional.
So I was barely 6 months in and;
I was struggling with late-earlies
We had a steady supply of thank you chocolates/lollies/biscuits etc. and I was so desperate for a little mid-shift ‘kick’ sometimes that I’d just keep going until it's gone - which turned into self loathing because my waistline was rapidly expanding
I was no longer exercising because I was too tired
I’d get home and demand that everyone shut up and not talk to me because I needed to be alone
And I was struggling to fall asleep after my shift most days!
As a result, I was in perpetual survival mode;
Snapping at loved ones over the tiniest inconveniences,
My health was suffering
I was struggling to juggle the work life balance
Rather sleeping and cancelling social events than catching up with loved ones and doing things I used to enjoy
I was exhausted
An anxious mess
I was beginning to feel like a failure in all areas of my personal and professional life

I didn’t realise I was in this state of burnout until the day I asked my clinical nurse educator “do you have any sort of strategies for how to deal with what I'm experiencing because I don't want what I'm seeing is happening around me to become my own reality” and she said “get used to it, it's not gonna change”
My response was “what if I did a QI project to try and improve things and come up with some strategies to create some change” and she's like “no don't bother you've got too much on your plate already”
Now, that’s just not the type of person that I am, I wasn't gonna let it lie so I did my own research in my own time and started finding that there was a huge huge lack of this sort of support and information and like how to that was tailored to nurses because it's either tailored to business owners or CEOs and stay at home mums but it still wasn’t quite tailored to nursing.
My training was so so focused on “cover your ass with your notes” and that drilled into you with the occasional mention of ‘you need to look after yourself’ but not once did they say;
this is how you deal with shift work
this is how you go to sleep after a full on shift
this is how you deal with a patient passing away or someone abusing you physically, emotionally or verbally

And I find those are the things that many nurses deal with DAILY!
It took about 2 years of trial and error, research, programs, coaching, reading, videos and more before I found the key elements that would make a lasting difference in my life.
I realised that I’d found ‘it’ when I was listening to my coworkers (in an entirely different specialty) talking about the exact same problems that I’d encountered in my grad year and couldn’t relate any more. Not because I wasn’t affected by them but because they were no longer major pain points for me, they were ‘taken care of’, so to speak.
In that moment, I could look back and see just how far I’d come and the incredible difference what I was doing had made.
Experiencing these struggles and then finding the solution after and incredible amount of work, made me realise that it IS possible to create balance and that knowing what works, makes all the difference - you don’t know what you don’t know (or don’t get taught)!
Once I’d broken free from the chains of burnout, I felt so privileged, like I’d entered an elite/secret club but also saddened that this information isn’t more readily available seeing as its VITAL to a nurse’s ability to move from surviving to thriving in an incredibly taxing work environment
Since then;
I’ve successfully created a work life balance that I love, that I knew I deserved.
I’m exercising regularly
I sleep better
I love my job, patients and coworkers
I’ve healed my personal relationships
I know how to leave work at the door without feeling guilty
I get to be present with my loved ones
The transition between shift types are much smoother
No longer using sick leave due to burnout, only when I’m actually sick!

“I was overwhelmed and at a crossroads in my career; having to decide if I was going to step down or get better at handling my busy working life. I approached Jeanelle for personal coaching following a recommendation from a close business friend. My goal was to gain clarity and focus on my busy working life and improve my quality of life.
I used the tools and resources provided to create strategies to shift my thought patterns and could finally enjoy my life!
If you are looking to challenge yourself and open your doors to possibilities, I highly recommend working with Jeanelle (Founder of Mindfulness for Health and Creator of Nursing the Nurse).”

That is, if you think spending years on trial and error, $1,000s on generalist programs, coaching and resources is worth your while. In saying that though, if you’ve already tried and haven’t come across something that actually works, it’s unlikely that you will before it’s too late aka burned out.
All that to say that if you could’ve figured it out, it’s likely that you would’ve by now.
Being concerned with whether you’ll be able to access the tools and strategies offered in our program, is completely understandable which is why our members area is built around convenience and accessibility - it can be accessed on any device and can even be downloaded as a mobile app so you can have access on the go - whenever, wherever!
First, you're in the right place if you're brand new to beating and preventing nurse burnout. You've found the perfect place to get your toes wet and maybe even dive in deeper.
But you're also in the right place if you've tried any health, wellness or mindfulness programs in the past and, well, struggled with it a bit or didn’t quite get lasting results. You’re probably finding yourself feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and struggling to find a work life balance as a shift working nurse.
Hard working
Passionate
Open minded and willing learn (and try) new things
Ready to take action
Willing and committed to go back to basics and doing what works
Determined to create lasting change in your life
Want to find balance that works for you
Now, if any of the above describes you, you're ABSOLUTELY in the right place!
This is NOT for you if;
❌Want to keep doing what you’re doing because everything else is ‘too hard’
❌Don’t want to make changes
❌Not 100% committed
❌Unwilling to learn from others’ experiences
❌Looking for a quick fix
It's true that nurses have diverse roles and responsibilities. What would make a nurse who is teaching patients, families of patients, clients, our coworkers, we counsel our coworkers throughout our shift unqualified to support and guide one another? The answer; it makes us perfectly qualified! If you have an open mind, an empathetic ear and that real life experience to support, I mean, that is part of our scope of practice–right?! It’s so valuable to learn from various avenues; people, environments, situations and experiences.
I get it! Balancing work and personal life during shifts is a significant challenge for many. And with skills and strategies that work, you’ll be able to better harmonise your schedule and prioritise self-care alongside demanding work hours.
Wouldn’t I get better at creating work-life balance as I get more experience? Surely it will save time, money and effort in the long run!?
Experimenting with balance can seem like a daunting task. Which is why learning from shared experiences within the nursing community can accelerate your journey, saving valuable resources and fostering a healthier work-life dynamic.
It's understandable to feel discouraged, because let's face it, the “system” is broken as. And it’s completely understandable that you’d be hesitant to do anything about it because ‘what difference could little ol’ me make, anyways - right?’. The great thing about starting with ourselves is it allows us to take responsibility for what’s within our immediate control whilst being able to let go of what's not, without a fraction of guilt - what a gift! Ultimately, we can drive meaningful improvements and enhance our professional environment.
